STOCKHOLM -- A Parishville woman was charged with six counts of animal cruelty by neglect today.
Rose L. Malone, 50, was charged following an investigation by the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department into the neglect of several horses on the Buckton Road in Stockholm, according to deputies.
The deputies were alerted to the condition of the horses and the lack of adequate food, water, and shelter by concerned citizens, deputies said.
The horses were all examined by a veterinarian and were found to be in need of immediate medical attention. As a result, six horses were removed from the property and boarded elsewhere. One horse later died. The remaining five horses are responding well to treatment, deputies said.
Malone was arraigned in Parishville Town Court before being released without bail. She is scheduled to appear in Stockholm Town Court at a later date.
