Parents concerned about school staff and program cuts to lobby Senate, Assembly members at meeting at SUNY Canton

CANTON – Parents of school kids worried about money for teachers and courses will be lobbying state Senate and Assembly members and local school officials at a meeting this Saturday, March 10.

SUNY Canton is playing host to state legislators that represent St. Lawrence County and county school superintendents and school board members at a breakfast Saturday morning.

Tedra Cobb, a former St. Lawrence County legislator and parent of two Canton district school students, has helped organize recent meetings on school aid, and is encouraging people to show up at Roos House at SUNY Canton from 7:45 to 8:30 a.m. “to keep fighting for our students and fair and equitable funding for our schools,” she said.

Cobb said she would like to see 500 people there. That goal might be in reach considering the hundreds that took busses to Albany last week to lobby lawmaker there on the school aid issue.

“We want to be there in force to show them we are here and we are fighting with them,” Cobb.

She said she expects the demonstration to be “positive and encouraging.”
