Orthopedist Dr. Thomas Herzog (left) welcomes Dr. Haasbeek to the staff.

OGDENSBURG – Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center has announced orthopedist Dr. Jeffrey Haasbeek has returned to its staff.

Dr. Haasbeek knows that fractures are an extremely common injury sustained by children--in fact it is probably the most common reason for a child to visit an orthopedic surgeon.

When a child sustains a broken bone, it is not the same as an adult breaking a bone.

Treatment considerations in adults and children are different, and these injuries must be treated according to the type of injury and the age of the patient.

"I am happy to be back at Claxton-Hepburn to provide orthopedic care to all the children in the North Country. I have extensive experience with children's orthopedic needs and have completed extra training in the field at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., and The Hospital for Sick Children, at the University of Toronto," stated Haasbeek.

He continued, "As a parent myself, I understand the difficult challenges parents can face with a sick or injured child. I have completed over 5,000 children's surgeries and my ten plus years in the field of pediatric orthopedics helps ensure parents' confidence in me and the care I provide to their children."

He concluded, "I strive to work with parents to ensure the best outcome for their children."

In addition to pediatric orthopedics, Dr. Haasbeek has fellowship training in adult hand/wrist surgery and will spend at least half of his practice looking after hand/wrist conditions.

He performs endoscopic carpal tunnel releases as well as treating and performing all hand and wrist related surgeries for injuries, arthritis, and other ailments.

Dr. Thomas Herzog, general orthopedist at Claxton-Hepburn added, "We are glad to welcome back Dr. Haasbeek and his specialist care he provides in pediatric orthopedics and hand and wrist surgery. His expertise will complement the existing orthopedic services we provide at Claxton-Hepburn."

Dr. Haasbeek cares for pediatric conditions, adult hand and wrist conditions, injuries and disease of the musculoskeletal system.

His clinical interests include clubfoot deformities, developmental and congenital hip dislocations, gait disorders, leg length discrepancy and leg lengthening, scoliosis and spine disorders, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, pediatric and adult arthritis, infections, hemophilia, bone tumors, dysplasia, pediatric trauma, carpal tunnel syndrome, other nerve

compression syndromes, and injuries.

Dr. Haasbeek earned his medical degree from the University of Manitoba, Canada, and also completed his internship and residency there.

He continued his training and completed pediatric orthopedic fellowships at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn., and at The Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto, and an adult hand and wrist fellowship at the University of Calgary, Canada.

Dr. Haasbeek is board-certified by the Royal College of Surgeons, Canada, and the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is a member of the American Medical Association as well as many other prestigious health organizations.

He has participated in many scientific presentations at major medical meetings and has written and published several abstracts and journal articles.
