OGDENSBURG -- An Ogdensburg police officer was arrested on child pornography charges Thursday, according to state police.

Harry J. McCarthy, 54, was reportedly charged with promoting an obscene sexual performance by a child and possession of an obscene sexual performance by a child, both felonies.

The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the New York State Police Computer Crimes Unit and Troop B, in cooperation with the City of Ogdensburg Police Department.

McCarthy, who is a sworn member of the Ogdensburg Police Department, was arraigned before the town of Pierrepont Court and released under the supervision of probation.
