OGDENSBURG — Those hoping to reserve the gazebo at Library Park will need to apply to the library, not the city as had been done in the past.
On Jan. 9, City Council codified changes that clarified upkeep, liability and maintenance of the Library Park, including the gazebo, is the responsibility of the library, not the city.
For decades the city has maintained the park and handled reservations and maintenance, but it was discovered that the actual responsibility belongs to the library which is the owner of the park.
Interim City Manager Andrea Smith said the change in the city ordinance will simply make the city code match up with the legal reality that already existed.
In a press release issued Jan. 11 Library Director Penny Kefien said reservations for the gazebo could be made via email at pkerfien@ncls.org or 315-393-4325.
“To use the park a "park use" form will need to be filled out with the library, so we can keep a calendar of events. The Library looks forward to the community using the park and gazebo,” she said.
Traditionally the gazebo has been used by performers who play during the Seaway Festival. They will no need to set that up with the library rather than the city.
