OGDENSBURG -- The Friends of the Ogdensburg Public Library will spend the week of Oct. 20-26 celebrating its Friends of the Library group as part of the 13th annual celebration of what they call “National Friends of Libraries Week.”

The Friends of the Ogdensburg Public Library were established in 1980’s and have raised over $190,000 for the library to date.

Currently more than 150 community members contribute annually to the Friends, and nearly 40 of these contributors actively volunteer their time to assist the group with fundraising efforts that include annual book sales held every spring and fall, the Sweetheart Soiree held in February, local artists book signing and poetry reading events and the annual Book Club Convention.

“The Ogdensburg Public Library is a vital part of our community and the Friends of the Library are proud to add our support to the great work Penny Kerfien, executive director of the Ogdensburg Public Library; her wonderful staff and very active and productive Board of Trustees contribute to the City of Ogdensburg. We have fun hosting events and activities that add richness to our community,” said Laura Pearson, Friends president.

Other officers of the organization are: Kathy Farr, vice president; Tom Lawrence, treasurer; and Cindy Lyons-Hart, secretary. Active members include Lin Griffin, Cheryl Ladouceur, Jo-Ellen Murray, Thomas Robarge and Penny Kerfien, ex-officio member.

Board meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m. in the Ogdensburg Public Library. The public and Friends members are always welcome to attend.
