Ogdensburg hockey player signs with Paul Smith’s Bobcats

LAKE PLACID -- Michaela Powers of Ogdensburg and her mother, Heidi, recently attended a socially distant signing day event in Lake Placid to commemorate her commitment to play hockey for the Paul Smith's College Bobcats and attend the college this year.

Powers joined five other student athletes and their families at the ceremony which was held outside the Olympic Center.

Last year, the PSC Bobcats finished 9-4 in its inaugural season in the Presidential Division of the Independent Women's Club Hockey League.

The signing ceremony featured spaced out chairs for social distancing in front of a Paul Smith's College backdrop. The new recruits sat one by one at a table and signed their letters of intent with loved ones by their sides to play for the Bobcats.

Paul Smith's is tentatively scheduled to begin its season in October. Some home games will be staged at the Olympic Center as well as the Saranac Lake Civic Center.
