OGDENSBURG — The Ogdensburg History Museum Board of Directors is pleased to announce that the Northern New York Community Foundation has awarded the museum a $10,000 technology grant.

“This grant will allow us to enhance exhibit and program technology to help us tell the story of Ogdensburg to residents and visitors to our community,” said Museum President Julie Madlin. “The technology will be utilized with exhibits to provide videos, virtual reality tours, audio and interactive games to enhance the learning experience and provide different learning modalities for our visitors.”

“We also intend to use technology to increase accessibility to local history for people with disabilities and children,” Madlin said. “Education and technology will generate and increase interest in Ogdensburg’s history, which will lead to more museum visitors and support for the museum. Through this project the community will increase its collective knowledge about the history of the city, and will build a sense of pride in the community.”

“When we decided to open an Ogdensburg History Museum, we wanted to make it an attraction that would provide visitors another reason to come to Ogdensburg and stay longer after they visit the world-famous Frederic Remington Art Museum,” said Madlin. “Our goal is to help make our community a place where families will want to visit and experience our rich history at the Abbe Picquet Trail, our downtown Battlefield exhibits, the Remington Museum and the Ogdensburg History Museum.”

“Our community has a rich and unique cultural heritage whose story sets it apart,” she said.

“We would like to thank the Northern New York Community Foundation for supporting our efforts to preserve, interpret and bring to life the fascinating stories thar encompass Ogdensburg’s history.”

Since 1929, the Northern New York Community Foundation has invested in improving and enriching the quality of life for communities across Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties.

Through partnerships with businesses and organizations, charitable foundations, and generous families and individual donors, the Community Foundation awards grants and scholarships from an endowment and collection of funds that benefit the region. Its commitment to donors helps individuals achieve their charitable objectives now and for generations to come by preserving and honoring legacies of community philanthropy while inspiring others.
