OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg's firefighter's union is pushing back against Mayor Jeffrey M. Skelly's proposal to remove the city manager.
Skelly confirmed Wednesday that he intended to propose a resolution to terminate Sarah Purdy.
The statement from the firefighter's union follows.
"The Ogdensburg Professional Firefighter's would also like to address the news that the Mayor is looking at removing the City Manager. We take a stand with the Ogdensburg Police Benevolent Association that this is a critical time not only in the City of Ogdensburg but nation wide. We need strong, dependable leadership right now. Sarah Purdy has proven her leadership.
"She will be instrumental in securing the funding necessary to protect our citizens and first responders. We need to work as a team moving forward through this pandemic and beyond. This is not the time to be cutting EXTREMELY ESSENTIAL services. We also agree that the Mayor intends to improve the city. This is not the best approach. Please reach out to your city council and voice your concern. Again, your City first responders are here for you no matter the situation. Please be there for each other and us."
The message is signed by union president Allen M. Rickett.
