MASSENA – The New York Power Authority’s Hawkins Point Visitors Center and Boat Launch will offer expanded summer hours beginning Memorial Day Weekend.
The admission-free visitors center, part of the NYPA’s St. Lawrence-Franklin D. Roosevelt Power Project, will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week.
The visitor’s center offers hands-on exhibits on energy, electricity, history and the environment. You can hop on a bicycle generator and turn pedal power into electricity or have a hair-raising experience with static electricity using the Van de Graaff generator. The audiovisual terrain map charts the course of the mighty St. Lawrence River from Ogdensburg to Massena.
Last year, NYPA welcomed more than 23,000 visitors to the Hawkins Point facility.
NYPA will again be offering free movies every Tuesday beginning July 3. Every Tuesday through Aug. 28, family-friendly films will be shown at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in the visitors center’s auditorium.
On Fridays, classic movies are shown at 1:30 p.m.
All events are free of charge and open to the public.
Movie schedules and information on other visitor’s center events can be found at www.nypa.gov/vc/stlaw.htm. For more information or to book a tour, call 764-0226 ext. 302.
