NORWOOD — The Norwood Village Green Concert Series will present three world music performing groups in its 50th Anniversary Season. The groups represent music from Andalusia, Spain, Mexico via Los Angeles, and India.
On July 9, La Banda Morisca will perform music from Andulusia.
Inspired by this Andalusí heritage and by the folkloric cannon of ballads, the sextet has developed a creative and unique vision of a repertoire that combines the traditions of the Eastern and Western Mediterranean with the spirit of flamenco and Andalusian rock.
The appearance by La Banda Morisca is supported by IberMusicas in conjunction with Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation through its Iber Exchange and the National Endowment for the Arts.
On July 27, Tres Souls will perform classic bolero music from Mexican films of the 1930’s and ‘40’. The beloved Los Angeles based trio, has been capturing the hearts of Angelenos, one ballad at a time.
They relive the vintage sounds and songs of the 1940s-1960s, stylized during the Golden Era of Mexican Cinema.
On July 30, sitar master Ustad Shaffat Khan will make a return visit to the Norwood Village Green Concert Series with his accompanying musicians Victor Nika on guitar and Rishy Mehrotra on tabla.
Khan, a world-renowned Indian Classical musician, recently performed with Stevie Wonder at the Bonnaroo Festival, one of the biggest festivals in the USA.
His unique concert presentations include Indian classical/folk music on sitar, tabla and vocal, Sufi inspired compositions, and a multi-cultural fusion ranging from western classical, jazz, and rock, to pop, flamenco, and African rhythms.
