NORWOOD -- Norwood police are warning the public about counterfeit money being circulated in the North Country.
Norwood Police Officer Shawn Wells said his agency is issuing a warning to all businesses in and around the Norwood area to check all $100 bills they take in.
"We have been made aware that a large quantity of fake 100s have been located in our area and are most likely being passed around Norwood and the surrounding towns," he said.
The fake bills all have the following serial number: ME42703207.
In addition, Wells said each of the bills has the word "copy" printed above the "100" in the lower left corner on both sides.
"The word 'copy' is in small print and may be easy to miss unless you look for it," Wells said. "We want everyone to protect themselves from this scam and be observant."
If anyone comes into possession of a fake bill, contact the Norwood Police Department immediately at 315-353-2131.
If anyone is unsure if money being given to them is real or fake, contact police to be sure.
