North County Assemblyman Walczyk named to bi-partisan Legislative Commission

Assemblyman Mark Walczyk, R-Watertown, has been named to serve as a member of a bi-partisan Legislative Commission that aims to protect the resources of New York, and help leverage assets for future economic development.

The commission will examine the economic impact of rural resources on the state’s economy; review the impact of existing laws and regulations on rural resources; assess the impact of state policies on rural areas; examine the impact of programs specifically designed to address rural resource needs and problems; and make recommendations to the Legislature for action to enhance and protect the state’s rural resources.

“The Front Yard of America is home to so much opportunity, but sometimes, misguided policy from Albany can get in the way of rural communities from reaching their full potential,” said Assemblyman Walczyk. “I’m excited to have been named to serve on the Rural Resources Commission. I can’t wait to roll my sleeves up and work side-by-side with like-minded legislators to preserve our state’s home grown assists and leverage them for economic development and prosperity to help keep St. Lawrence and Jefferson Counties a great place to live, work and raise a family for generations to come.”

“Our rural communities are unique and we need strong voices in Albany who will advocate for their needs when it comes to everything from health care to educational opportunities,” said Sen. Patty Ritchie. “I am pleased that Assemblyman Walczyk will now play a larger role in this effort as a member of the Rural Resources Commission. I wish him the best of luck in this new role, and look forward to continuing to work with him to improve the quality of life in the rural regions we represent.”
