MASSENA — Many North Country wrestling fans were left disappointed after New Breed Entertainment canceled their planned “Genesis” this past weekend.

The show was to have taken place Aug. 1 at the Massena Arena.

In a statement on their Facebook page, New Breed Entertainment claims the show was canceled due to an “investigation” involving the New York State Athletic Commission.

“The New York State Athletic Commission is working with New Breed Entertainment to resolve this issue,” the online statement said. “A date will be announced by NBE in the future for the rescheduled event, once the investigation is cleared.”

New Breed Entertainment says that some individuals in the community have engaged in activities to slander their business.

“Among these are the fraudulent claims to the New York State Athletic Commission with false information edited into press release information in local online media,” the statement said.

Once the statement was posted online, fans inquired about how to get refunds. Some posted messages on the thread stating they were going to file a complaint with PayPal to get their refund.

“For those who are waiting on refunds through the ticket site you can also request a refund through PayPal where tickets were purchased. This might help expedite the refund process,” a statement from New Breed Entertainment said.

Some fans posted online that they had received a refund through PayPal. It was not immediately clear how people would recieve refunds if they purchased tickets by means other than PayPal.

North Country This Week reached out to New Breed Entertainment weeks ahead of the event in an attempt to promote the event. They did not respond to our attempts to do a story.

Professional wrestler Deonna Purrazzo warned fans a few days prior to the event that she would not be attending the show and urged them to seek a refund. She also warned other professional wrestlers from working with the company in the future.

Hours before the original bell time, New Breed Entertainment posted a video from Twitter with headliner Chris Masters stating that he had been paid all of his money in advance and that he had been in communication with officials there.

A third wrestler who goes by Rick Recon, said the event organizer had never contacted him prior to the show to let him know if he should travel or not.

“You have talent trying to contact you whether we should bother traveling to this event or not. Might wanna actually reach out to them,” Recon said.

Attempts to contact New Breed Entertainment for comment have been unsuccessful.

Wrestling fan and former newspaper reporter Benny Fairchild spoke out about “The Show That Never Was” in his blog “Headlocks and Headlines.” He details his dealings with the promoter of the show, advice for attending future shows and the emotions involved of disappointed fans, including his daughter.
