A headline and article from North Country This Week may soon be seen on an upcoming episode of the ABC News ethical dilemma program “What Would You Do?”

Sarah Sachs of Potsdam Public Library said she was recently contacted by the show’s producers, who asked her for a scanned copy of the NCTW front-page article from Oct. 13-19, “Food Stamp Recipients in County Up 60% in Three Years” by associate editor Maureen Piché.

According to Christina Wang, associate producer of “What Would You Do?” she had found the article when conducting an online search for stories dealing with food stamp increases.

She wanted a photographed copy of the article to run as a visual while a voice-over explains the premise of the episode. The hidden camera, ethical dilemma series puts ordinary people on the spot with actors portraying different scenarios.

“The headline may flash across the screen for a few seconds,” Wang said.

The episode, which has already been filmed and is in the editing process, presents an actress pretending to be a shopper who has run out of food stamps while at the checkout of a grocery store. Wang said the dilemma is whether any of the customers will help her out.

Wang said, for the most part, the customers reacted positively—some even offering cash.

She said there’s no firm date for the airing of the show, but predicts it will appear in December or January.
