North Country Rep. Stefanik co-sponsors bill to get chiropractic covered by Medicare

Posted

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik is now a cosponsor of the Chiropractic Medicare Coverage Modernization Act, bipartisan legislation that would allow Medicare beneficiaries access to chiropractic approaches to pain management.

Currently, Medicare does not cover chiropractic practices like joint mobilization, physiological therapies, soft tissue management techniques, and other similar treatments. This bill expands Medicare beneficiaries’ access to these services for pain management.

“Chiropractic care has become an important pain management strategy throughout the North Country and the United States,” said Congresswoman Stefanik.

“This legislation supports the initiative to stem the epidemic of prescription opioid overuse and abuse by encouraging pain management methods through chiropractic therapies. The North Country is home to a number of local chiropractic practices and also to many constituents who utilize Medicare. This common-sense legislation is an important step in helping our communities address pain management and encouraging a decreased reliance on prescription drugs, and I look forward to supporting this effort along with a bipartisan group of my House colleagues.”
