NORFOLK – A Massena man was arrested a variety of charges June 18 after allegedly leading Norfolk police on a pursuit while tossing marijuana plants out of his car window.
Derek Wagstaff, 37, Massena, was charged with reckless driving, failure to obey police officer, speeding, speeding in work zone, criminal possession of marijuana, unlawful fleeing police, and dispose of refuse on a highway.
The incident occurred on June 17 when Norfolk police officers said they observed Wagstaff operating a black Subaru Forrester on the Brouse Road at 80 mph in a 55 mph zone.
Wagstaff refused to comply when police attempted to conduct a traffic stop, police allege.
During the incident, Wagstaff tossed several marijuana plants out his vehicle window onto the road, police said.
Wagstaff also drove through a work zone without slowing down, almost striking one utility worker, police allege.
Norfolk police say they terminated the pursuit and requested assistance from state police and Massena village police.
He was located the next day at his residence in Massena and taken into custody by Norfolk police.
Wagstaff is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
