OGDENSBURG -- Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center has added an orthopedic surgeon to its medical staff.

Dr. Richard D. Tombler joins Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center most recently from Cornwall Community Hospital where he served as the chief of staff from 2004-2009.

When asked what drew him to Claxton-Hepburn, he said, “I grew up in Canada on the St. Lawrence River in a community similar to this one. I am very excited to be taking part in the US orthopedic system which is very similar to the Canadian system that I am used to.

“Claxton-Hepburn and the United States healthcare system allows me to do what I trained to do, and what I love to do, be a surgeon.”

Dr. Tombler is seeing patients at 3 Lyon Place, Suite 200, Ogdensburg. People can contact his office by calling 394-7542.

Tombler did his premedical schooling at Queens University, Kingston, Ontario and then went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Ottawa, Ottawa, Ontario. He completed a general rotating internship at Toronto East General Hospital, and an orthopedic residency at the University of Ottawa, and a fellowship in sports medicine at the Dr. D. Johnson Sports Medicine Clinic, Carleton University, Ottawa.

Tombler is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Canada. He is also a member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, the Ontario Medical Association, the Ontario Orthopedic Association, and the Cornwall Academy of Medicine.
