New county planning board member sought following pot-related resignation

CANTON – With a new vacancy on the St. Lawrence County Planning Board, applications will be welcomed from any person regardless of occupation or location in the county, the county Planning Office says.

Planning board member David Duff resigned last week after authorities say they found marijuana growing in a field of Duff's in Macomb.

The planning board is 15 volunteers that advises the Board of Legislators on a variety of issues. Some recent topics include the Lowe’s development in Potsdam, Tractor Supply Company stores in Massena and Potsdam, Rushton Place in Canton, and development of a model law to regulate wind energy facilities.

The board has produced a county land use plan, population projections, and many policy recommendations for the legislature since the planning board began operating in 1968. They also review local projects for impact beyond the local municipalities.
