New OB/GYN practicing in Massena

MASSENA -- Massena Memorial Hospital welcomed Richard Summermatter, MD, to its North Country Women’s Health staff.

Dr. Summermatter welcomes new moms and all women for their obstetrical and gynecological needs, and has extensive experience with laparoscopic surgery.

Throughout his career, Summermatter has performed many paravaginal repairs, endometrial ablations, laparoscopic oophorectomies, laparoscopic presacral neurectomies, cystoscopies and hysteroscopies. He also specializes in infertility evaluation/treatment and works closely with fertility specialists.

Dr. Summermatter graduated from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1980 and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine from 1980-1984. Since 1984, Summermatter has had a private practice and worked at various group practices, with his latest tenure at The Women’s Health Center at Springfield Hospital, Vermont.

In addition to having significant experience, Dr. Summermatter is committed to providing care to the underserved. Since 2014, Summermatter travels annually to the Province of Zamboanga del Norte, Republic of the Philippines with one of his colleagues. Summermatter and his colleague perform major surgeries for women living in the Philippines to ensure that they receive much needed care. He plans to continue his medical mission and return each year as long as his health allows him to do so.
