CANTON – Nurse Practitioner Mackenzie Sweeney has joined Canton-Potsdam Hospital’s Endocrinology team, located in the St. Lawrence Health Medical Campus, 6119 US Route 11, Canton.

A North Country native, Ms. Sweeney’s name and face may be familiar from growing up in the area, or from her previous position with St. Lawrence Health. She is transitioning to Canton from Gouverneur Hospital, where she worked as a Registered Nurse in the medical/surgical-detoxification units.

“During my time with St. Lawrence Health, I have always felt a strong sense of compassion and support from the organization. I have had the pleasure of working with many providers who strive to provide excellent care,” Ms. Sweeney said. “As I prepared to move into my next role as a Family Nurse Practitioner, I knew I wanted to continue being a part of this dynamic and high-quality team. It means a great deal to me to be able to assure patients they can seek superb healthcare locally, which decreases their burden of travel.

“I am excited to be a familiar face to patients, and being from the North Country, it is rewarding to have the opportunity to care for members of my own community,” she added “This region is unique, as it offers a hometown family feel between St. Lawrence Health staff and our patients.

Ms. Sweeney is certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, and Basic Life Support. As an Endocrinology Nurse Practitioner, she specializes in diagnosing and treating disorders related to the glands, and diseases of the endocrine system such as diabetes, thyroid disorders, growth disorders, obesity, infertility, adrenal issues, pituitary, and hormonal issues. Her main goal is to restore balance to her patients’ hormone systems.
