CANTON — St. Lawrence County legislators on the Operations Committee are pushing for a new electronic security badge system for the courthouse and Human Services Building on State Highway 310.

During the committee’s Jan. 9 meeting, legislators approved a resolution that will allow the county to contract with Stanley Convergent Security Solutions Inc.

Officials say Stanley has taken over the sponsoring systems in question and “are uniquely positioned to provide a cost-efficient way to upgrade both systems.”

The total cost is $5,527 under the Sourcewell Contract, officials say.

If the action is delayed, officials say a breach in security is possible “due to security risks.”

According to officials, the information technology department has the funding necessary to cover the expenses incurred by the contract.

The resolution will now move to the full board for final approval.
