North Country This Week
POTSDAM — Old Market Coffee opened Aug. 5 at 1/2 Main St., located at the corner of Main and Market streets.
They offer locally-roasted coffee and espresso, a variety of teas, 100% crushed fruit smoothies, and homemade pastries.
The shop has a full espresso bar. Coffees include drip coffee, Americano, cappuccino, and macchiato, among others.
Some tea options are blood orange, Earl grey, Irish breakfast, golden flower and honeybush banana nut. Customers can have it hot or iced.
Fruit smoothie options include mango, strawberry, pineapple, and banana options; hot chocolate is on the menu too.
The business is owned by friends Jerrial Martin and Josh Puffer.
Martin and Puffer grew up together, attended church together and have had a mutual dream to own a coffee shop.
Martin said a lot of research was done ahead of opening, including training downstate for a month and welcoming “coaches” who help businesses launch.
The owners took a special interest in crepes following visits to Montreal and France. They would also try various coffees during their travels.
Some crepe options include bacon avocado, red raspberry mousse and capri, which include basil pesto, tomato and fresh mozzarella.
“There is a selection of savory or sweet crepes,” Martin said.
Build-your-own crepes, yogurt parfaits and sweet treats round out the menu.
Customers can satisfy their sweet tooth with cinnamon rolls, muffins and cookies. Most sweet treats are made locally, Martin said.
The cafe is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
The location was previously home to Park Bros Coffee, which shifted its operations to The Bagelry location on Market Street.
