POTSDAM -- St. Lawrence County residents, including those living in Massena, Star Lake, Ogdensburg, Potsdam, and Gouverneur, are advised to use caution on roadways this evening (Dec. 10) to avoid icy spots.
The National Weather Service predicts that across northern New York, a cold front will usher in much colder temperatures late this afternoon into this evening.
As temperatures fall below freezing, any areas of standing water will rapidly freeze, creating icy spots on roads and sidewalks, the National Weather Service said in a hazardous weather warning.
For those traveling, use caution during the evening commute and into tonight as black ice can be difficult to spot, especially at nighttime, said the agency.
Untreated surfaces will become extremely slippery and offer little or no traction. Reduced speeds and greater distance between vehicles is advised.
