CANTON -- The Canton Community Fund (CCF) at its April 3 meeting awarded over $4,600 in grants to four local organizations.
CCF awarded $1,990 to the Morley Volunteer Fire Company for two strainers which facilitate the transport of water at fire scenes, two pagers, firefighting gloves, and hoods.
“We're pleased that the fire department in one of the smaller communities in the town has come to us for support,” said Neal Burdick, CCF Board president. “It shows that we serve the entire town of Canton, not just the village.”
A donation of $216 was made to the St. Lawrence County Community Development Program, for the Canton Head Start program. The grant will provide for admission of 36 children to the North Country Children's Museum.
CCF also donated $440 to the First Presbyterian Church in Canton, The money will be directed toward promotional and educational materials for the Canton Farmers' Market, which is hosted by the church.
Finally, CCF made a $2,000 donation to the Help Sami Kick Cancer Foundation, Inc, for a commercial washer and dryer at its Lodge at Dream Tree Ranch facility.
The ranch, which is in development near Canton, will host and provide programs for victims of pediatric cancer and their families.
