More than 200 raise more than $40,400 for Alzheimer's research at walk in Canton

CANTON -- More than 200 people from St. Lawrence County joined the Alzheimer's Association's Walk to End Alzheimer's Saturday, raising more than $40,400 for fund Alzheimer's care, support and research programs.

"Our team of staff and volunteers was inspired by how everyone united in the fight against Alzheimer's disease at the Walk to End Alzheimer's," said Catherine James, Alzheimer's Association, Central New York Chapter Chief Executive Officer. "The leadership of our volunteer planning committee made today's event a true local success story.

As of 6 p.m. Saturday, Dale Grant was the top individual fundraiser with $3,218 raised, while Jonathan Hamilton led youth fundraisers with $775.

The top family and friends team was the Memory Keepers, which raised $4,456.

Community Bank was the top corporate team with $2,080 raised, while United Journey, the team from United Helpers, was the leading senior care team with $5,888.

John Friot from WWNY-TV served as the master of ceremonies for the event.

Fundraising ends on Oct. 31, after which we will announce the Grand Champion Fundraisers for Walk.

Walk to End Alzheimer's participants did more than complete the three-mile walk. They learned more about Alzheimer's disease and the Association's critical role in the fight against it, including the latest about Alzheimer's research and current clinical trials, how they can become involved in advocacy efforts at home and in Washington, DC and the Association's support programs and services.
