AKWESASNE -- Just six weeks remain before the drop of the first green flag of the season at Mohawk International Raceway.
Many events are lined up, including the return of the Empire Super Sprints, the debut of the O'Reilly All-Star Sprint Cars, plus DIRTcar Tour events in September for the Modifieds, 358 Modifieds, Sportsman and Pro Stocks.
The Frenchie's Chevrolet 358 Modified Series will return. Also featured will be the Frenchie's Built Ford Tough Sportsman Series, Bailey Motor Company Pro Stock Tour, and the CKON 97.3FM Bandit Series.
Mohawk International Raceway will open on Saturday, May 14 with open practice for all divisions and will kick off the 2011 season on Friday, May 20 with twin 20-lap features for the 358 Modifieds as well as a regular show of Sportsman, Pro Stocks and Bandits.
The first special event of the season will be the return of the Empire Super Sprints Friday, June 10, along with a full show of all four weekly divisions.
Less then two weeks later, the first Thursday night show of the season will take place with a 100-lap 358 Modified event, along with a full show on July 23.
Mhe raceway will put on a large fireworks display to kick off July as part of the Independence Day Weekend Fourth of July celebration. The following week will feature another Thursday night special with the inaugural visit of the O'Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car tour invading MIR on July 7.
The final night of track points will take place on Labor Day weekend, as MIR will crown the 2011 Track Champions. However, the action will continue on the track through September with the second annual DIRTcar Series Weekend with DIRTcar tour events on Friday, September 16 for the 358 Modifieds and Sportsman, and DIRTcar events for the Big Block Modifieds and Pro Stocks on Saturday, September 17.
The raceway is located midway between the Seaway International Bridge to Cornwall, Ont. and the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino. From Route 37, turn south onto Frogtown Road.
