MASSENA -- The village's quarterly sales tax cut received in November went up compared to the same period last year.
Village Treasurer Kevin Felt said the village received $594,944, which is $65,855 (12.45%) more than last year.
At the Board of Trustees meeting where Felt made that announcement, St. Lawrence County Legislator Rita Curran, R-Massena, said it's likely because of internet sales tax.
She said the county is still negotiating with the City of Ogdensburg over the sales tax distribution formula.
Massena Mayor Tim Currier has recently stated that he believes the distribution formula should be mostly on population, not 50/50 based on population and assessed value as it is now.
