MASSENA -- The Village Board of Trustees broadened the residency requirement for deputy tax collectors, who are appointed by the board.
They voted on the measure unanimously during their Tuesday, Oct. 20 meeting.
The resolution says the village is limited by a Massena-only residency requirement, which “may prevent the selection of the most highly qualified candidates.”
It says that the village is keeping a St. Lawrence County residency requirement, in accordance with state law.
Mayor Tim Currier, prior to the board’s vote, noted that the prior, more-narrow residency requirement “comes up once in a while when considering the appointment of someone who does not live in the village.”
