Massena village board accepts resignations

MASSENA — Village officials accepted the resignations of a village motor equipment operator, as well as a Massena Fire Department Assistant Foreman during a board meeting on Jan. 18.

Motor equipment operator Shane Farmer’s resignation was accepted by the board and the authority to canvas for a new operator was authorized in a separate motion.

Department of Public Works Superintendent Hassan Fayad recommended the village utilize an existing pool of candidates that had been compiled the last two months to address another opening with an expected retirement in February.

Village officials said they would use the existing list to fill both vacancies.

Assistant Foreman of the fire department Mikel Kelso officially resigned his position as assistant foreman but will stay on as a career fireman, according to Foreman Aaron Hardy.

“This is just a matter of him scaling back a little bit, he’s still involved and will remain with the department. He just won’t be an assistant foreman moving forward,” he said.

Village officials took action and passed a resolution to appoint Walter Bean as Kelso’s replacement.
