MASSENA — Annual events were on the docket during the latest Massena Town Board meeting and Jason Hendricks has a number of ideas.

Hendricks, who works as the digital brand manager for the Town of Massena, said he has two events in mind.

The first is “Rockin’ the River 2023”, to be held during the summer, as well as a “Fall Foliage Fun Ride” to be held during the fall on the St. Lawrence River.

Hendricks said he has projected budgets and potential funding sources in mind for the two events.

One funding source for “Rockin’ the River 2023” would be sponsorships from local businesses that he said may cover anywhere from $5,000 to $15,000, with vendor spaces possibly ranging in cost from $300-500. Additional funds would come through donations to cover the event that has a projected expense of $9,000 to $16,500, according to Hendricks.

That budget was derived from venue rental fees, performer fees, fireworks, marketing and other supplies like tables, tents, chairs and signs, he said.

No date or time has been determined, nor has a definitive budget or performers.

If the event does move forward, it would be the second year in a row.

Officials held a “Rockin’ the River” event last year, which included many of the same events, along with a fishing derby for kids at the Wilson Hill causeway.

Hendricks said the “Fall Foliage Fund Ride” event would be much cheaper in comparison, with a potential budget of roughly $1,500.

That budget would be used for advertising and 500 full-color patches to be handed out to those who participate.

For that event to move forward, a date and time must be selected, followed by a specific route.

Sponsors would also be needed, along with promotions, rest stop arrangements, safety information, permitting, volunteers and numerous other requirements.

Hendricks said it’s his goal to bring new and fresh events to the area.

“I’m just working on a bunch of cool stuff to bring events to hopefully bring tourists and get more eyes on Massena in a positive way,” he said.
