MASSENA -- The Town Council in a special meeting voted to move forward with paperwork for three improvement grants at Massena International Airport.

The projects will expand the parking lot 150 feet by 150 feet, and move the security fence back to accommodate the parking lot expansion, said Highway Superintendent Frank Diagostino, who is also airport manager. It will also include construction of a concrete sidewalk, minor grading and drainage modifications and signage and pavement markings. It also includes rehabilitation of the existing airport parking lot.

He expects the work to be done this year. Now that the board has signed off, he can send letters to get things going with the state and contractor Barrett Paving.

The town will have to pay a $62,000 match, 25% of the total cost.

The board’s action also permits the town supervisor to sign a grant offer to rehabilitate a taxiway with pavement, drainage and remarking.

The board needed to meet in a special session because the paperwork was due Tuesday, Sept. 15, the day before their regular September meeting.
