MASSENA – Hoping to support Massena Neighborhood Center’s Christmas Program, the local Hannaford Supermarket will have 700 Helping Hands boxes for sale.

The boxes are located near the front of the store and are packed with food items including macaroni, pasta sauce, chicken noodle soup, canned chicken breast, cereal, oatmeal, grain white rice, and macaroni and cheese.

The boxes are sold for $10 and set aside for delivery to the Massena Neighborhood Center by volunteers.

“It would be wonderful to include a Helping Hands box with every Christmas food basket to provide additional nutritional meals to needy area families over the Christmas break,” said Jill Butler, coordinator for the Center’s Christmas program.

Kristine Sharp, Assistant Manager-Customer Service, is also coordinating a donation drive among the store associates to purchase Helping Hands boxes or other needed canned goods for the Neighborhood Center.

“This effort was very successful last year; hopefully we can meet or beat that amount this year,” she said.

The store is also accepting donations. Customers may deposit cash, checks (made payable to the Massena Neighborhood Center) or bottle return slips at kiosks located near the registers.

According to the Christmas program fundraising committee for the Center, cash donations are essential to purchase meat and other perishable items, along with gifts for the children.

Checks may also be mailed to the Center at 61 Beach St., Suite 103, Massena, NY 13662.
