MASSENA -- The Board of Education appointed new staff, substitutes, fall coaches and volunteers, and accepted two resignations at their Aug. 15 meeting.

Appointments included Ann Shatraw, Jefferson elementary teacher, effective Sept. 3, 2019 to Sept. 2, 2023, $44,174 salary; Peter Schneider, elementary music teacher, effective Sept. 3, 2019 to Sept. 2, 2023, $40,281 salary; Paula Torrey, Nightengale cafeteria monitor, effective Sept. 3, $4,522 salary; teacher aides Crystal St. John (Jefferson elementary), Lindsay Smith (Madison elementary), Illissa Barney (high school), Hannah Cayea (high school), Kim McGregor (Jefferson elementary), Katherine Delosh (high school) and Holly Francis (high school), all effective Sept. 3 at respective $19,133 salaries; elementary library aide Jaime LaBarge, effective Sept. 3, $22,805 salary; and high school teacher on special assignment Jan Normile, effective Sept. 3, 2019 to June 30, 2020, $64,485 salary.

Coaches, volunteers and advisors include Mike Matejcik, volunteer modified girls soccer coach; volunteer CrossFit advisors Kristopher Covell, Cristina David and Michelle Trimboli; Dak Zaza, volunteer cross country coach; Cashlynn Jaggers, volunteer JV volleyball coach; Nicole Ashley, cheerleading coach, $2,001 salary; and football volunteers John Witkop, Tyler Bestor, Sean Faucher and Dave Peets.

The board hired three long-term elementary substitutes, Heather Chontosh, Jefferson elementary from Sept. 3 to Nov. 22, $105 to $150 per day; Brittney Charleston, Nightengale elementary, Sept. 3 to a to-be-determined date, $95 per day; and Amanda Averill, Madison elementary, Sept. 3 to a to-be-determined date, $95 per day.

The board accepted resignations from Jane Bain, Jefferson elementary registered nurse, effective Aug. 31; and Courtney LeBeau, Madison elementary teacher, effective Aug. 9.
