MASSENA -- Massena Rotarian and Past District 7040 Governor Carter Montross described the many projects the club has been involved in during a presentation at a recent meeting of the Rotary Club.
Some of the projects that Montross highlighted include:
· 1966- The ice rink project at Alcoa Field.
· 1974- Massena Arena
· August l993- A deep rock hydra-drill project which provides a means for people to drill wells for water in Guatemala, Central America.
· July l994- A reforestation project which planted trees on barren mountain sides in Central America (110,056 trees planted.)
· 2006- Storage tanks for water for 12 public schools in El Salvador - 6 Rotary Clubs involved in the funding.
· 2007- District Simplified Grant to install sound system in Massena Community Center.
· 2011- Collected and delivered money to earthquake victims in San Salvador.
· An ongoing project that sends special needs children from the Massena area to Dodge Pond summer camp, $10,000 plus raised to date.
· Massena Rotary donated a flagpole and US Flag to Cornwall Rotary Circle.
· At Massena High School the club supports the academic banquet, several scholarships and sponsors a Rotary Interact club.
· Massena Rotary also works in conjunction with the Massena Elks Lodge on a yearly basis in supporting the three Massena food pantries.
