MASSENA -- A Massena man was arrested Thursday, May 21 and charged with imprisoning and raping a 61-year-old woman the previous day.

Jamie W. Pruner, 56, of 387 South Main St. Apt. 3, Massena is charged with two counts each of first-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse, both felonies. Police allege the acts occurred by forcible compulsion.

He was also charged with first-degree unlawful imprisonment, a felony, and first-degree harassment, a class B misdemeanor.

Pruner was arraigned by videoconference in front of Canton Town Justice Michael Morgan and released on his own recognizance.

In a news release, Massena Police Chief Adam Love alleged Pruner was not held on bail due to statewide criminal justice reform enacted earlier this year.

Love said the St. Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office had asked for Pruner to held in lieu of $15,000 bail or $30,000 bond.
