MASSENA — The Village of Massena will host a public information meeting to discuss updates to its Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan (LWRP).

The meeting will be held virtually on Thursday, April 22 at 6 p.m. via the following Zoom webinar link: https://zoom.us/s/91737470084. Participants may also dial in by phone using the following number and information: Dial: +1-646-518-9805, ID: 917 3747 0084.

Village residents as well as property and business owners are encouraged to participate and provide input. Residents who wish to provide input but unable to attend the public informational meeting may submit written comments to the Village Administrator Monique Chatland, via email at: villageclerk@village.massena.ny.us .

This meeting is intended to introduce the planning project, present the project boundary, and discuss a preliminary inventory and analysis of the targeted downtown area. The meeting will invite discussion on current issues facing the community and begin to identify opportunities for new recreational land, adaptive reuse of older properties, future economic development and other community improvements particularly along the Grasse River.

Additional public meetings, designed as interactive community workshops, will be held over the course of the next several months to specifically discuss the future vision of the community, present draft recommendations, and review the draft plan as it is developed.

A Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan is a long-term policy document which outlines the goals and future steps for a waterfront community with respect to many topics such as increasing public access to the river, protection of natural resources, desired future growth, recreation, zoning, land use and community amenities. It is typically developed in conjunction with input from local community residents and business owners.

This planning effort is being guided by a local Waterfront Advisory Committee, with the assistance of planning consultants Barton & Loguidice and funding partner NYS Department of State. The LWRP is being prepared in cooperation with the New York State Department of State with funds provided under Title 11 of the New York State Environmental Protection Fund.
