MASSENA -- A former Massena Central High School student is organizing a drive to save the tech prep program at the school.
Over 100 people have signed her online petition in support of the program.
"The Massena Central School budget for 2011-2012 does not include Tech Prep," says Deirdre Whelan at her petition web site at www.change.org/petitions/save-the-tech-prep-program.
"This program allows students an alternative to traditional classes, prepares them for postsecondary education and an entrance into the work world. I urge everyone to sign this petition that will be presented to the Board of Education on April 18, 2011," Whelan says.
The Massena Central school board is holding a public budget presentation at 6:30 p.m. April 18 in the high school cafeteria. There is also a public forum at 5 p.m. that day at the Massena Community Center on Beech Street to discuss the tech prep matter.
Whelan is urging interested people to attend both meetings, and to go to her site to add their names to the petition.
Over 100 people have signed the online petition.
