MASSENA -- Massena Central will bring back students in grades three through eight starting on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
“Students in these grades will follow a schedule, which was previously determined based on the Parent Commitment Form submitted over the summer. More information about schedules will be forthcoming from the building principals,” Superintendent Pat Brady said in a statement late on Wednesday afternoon.
He said high school students may come back on Oct. 6. That’s because some of them have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Though the infection rate has declined overall in the County and in Massena since Sept. 8, we continue to see cases among our high school students. If these students had been in school for in-person instruction, there is a strong possibility we would have had to go all-remote at that level,” Brady said.
He says the district will wait another week to decide about bringing back high school students on Oct. 6.
“This decision will continue to be based on infection rates in the community and particularly among this student population. An announcement on interscholastic sports will follow soon,” Brady said.
