MASSENA — The Massena Building and Code Enforcement Office has issued revised certificates of occupancy to essential businesses, pursuant local code and is consistent with Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s ‘Pause’ order.

For the health and safety of employees and patrons, the revised occupancy load requirements reduces the number of allowable patrons in each essential business, taking into account social distancing guidelines, according to a press release from Mayor Tim Currier. Questions on those new requirements can be emailed to: massenaeoc@gmail.com .

Massena Chief of Police, Adam J. Love, has directed his staff to step up enforcement to ensure that the NY PAUSE Order is being followed.

“Most of our citizens are doing an excellent job, some however, are choosing to ignore the rules and orders. It is time for everyone to take this seriously.” Compliance, following guidelines and orders is our preferred way, however, should enforcement be necessary, we are prepared to do so,” Chief Love said.

If it is essential to go out, the Center for Disease Control is recommending the use of cloth face covering during that time. For more information, www.cdc.gov/

“The stress associated with the impact of Covid-19 impacts us all differently,” he said. There are resources available. The Massena Wellness line is available by calling 315/705-2811 any time or email them at massenawellness.com. Currier said it is vital that everyone does their part. “We are all in this together; each and every one of us has had our make significant personal sacrifices. Following the recommended guidelines from the CDC and the NY Department of Health are vital to slowing and reducing the spread of Covid-19,” he said.

“The vast majority of our citizens are doing a great job by following the guidelines, staying home and being safe when they leave for essential reasons. It is time for all citizens to be responsible,” said Mayor Currier.

“We can and will do this. One of the strengths of Massena and our citizens, is our ability to work as a team and achieve common goals. It is in our DNA. We saw it when we developed the medicinal sulfur springs and welcomed guest from near and far to heal here. We worked with people from all over the world to build the St. Lawrence Seaway and Power Dam. Teamwork made Massena the industrial and manufacturing capital of the North Country, as the men and woman of organized labor made things that were shipped all over the world,” Currier said.
