Massena Board of Education approves new hires, resignations, a retirement, club advisors

MASSENA -- The Board of Education has approved a hire and substitutes, assigned club advisors, and accepted a leave of absence, resignations and a retirement.

The board appointed Sylvie Laughlin as a cafeteria monitor at Nightengale Elementary at a $4,522 pro-rated salary.

Advisors and other extra duty assignments approved by the board are all through June 30 at the high school, unless otherwise indicated.

They include: Christina David and Jodi LaGarry, Environmental Science Club volunteers; Jan Normile, IB coordinator; Jonathan Hunkins, house manager, and marching band; Chris Lincoln, musical director and Vocal Select; John Croasdaile, Whiz Quiz; Joanna Brown, Spanish Club; Joseph Boyle, Spanish National Honor Society; Debra Gainey, French National Honor Society; Mike Chartrand, Interact Club and Chess Club co-advisor; Todd Kimble, Chess Club co-advisor; Randy Freiman, chemical hygiene officer; Mike Chartrand, Todd Kimble and Erin McLear, 3-5 Recovery Program; class advisors Betty Robert (2023), Jessica Jarrett (2022), and Amanda Mittiga (2021); Darci Johnson, yearbook; AnneMarie Miller, Jodi LaGarry, Tammy Blanchard and Peter Bertrand, Cooking Club; Sarah Hopper, Diversity Club; Chris Sanchez, Anime Club; Danielle Brown, McKinney Vento Liaison (districtwide); Catherine Donahue, instructional technology coach (districtwide); Shelby Bero, elementary Mohawk Club advisor (districtwide); Joanne Jocko, junior high and high school Mohawk Club advisor; Ryan Ransom, Mohawk language and cultural advisor, My Brother’s Keeper coordinator.

The board also appointed Nicholas Corigliano as districtwide cross country volunteer coach through Nov. 14.

The board granted a leave of absence to high school English teacher Amanda Mittiga, effective Oct. 6 until a to-be-determined date.

The board accepted resignations from: Holly Miller, 2.5-hour-per-day food service helper, effective Sept. 18; Kevin Booth, 4-hour-per-day motor vehicle operator, effective Sept. 25; and motor vehicle operator Robyn McGregor, effective Sept. 25.

The board approved retirement for custodial worker Michael Baines, effective Oct. 15 at the close of business.

The board approved substitutes including Melinda Barton, long-term high school foreign language teacher substitute, Oct. 6 to a to-be-determined date; Tom Cameron, bus driver sub, effective Sept. 1; teacher/teacher assistant subs Nicole Wright (effective Sept. 28) and Jessica Curran (effective Oct. 16); support staff subs Nadine Hayes (effective Sept. 28), Tammy Fried (effective Sept. 28) and Brittany Robbins (effective Oct. 13); and LPN substitute Emily Sweet, effective Oct. 13.
