School-Business Partnerships of Long Island held the 12th annual LI FIRST Regional Robotics Competition at Hofstra University recently.
With the hope of winning one of several awards, high school students worked with professional mentors to design and build a robot over six weeks using a kit of parts and a standard set of rules.
More than 1,200 students from 50 high schools from Long Island, the New York metropolitan area, upstate New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania participated in the competition. Teams received honors and recognition that rewarded design excellence, competitive play, sportsmanship and high-impact partnerships between schools, businesses and communities.
The Massena High/Salmon River High team won two awards, the Motorola Quality Award and as Regional Winner #2.
