HERMON -- A Redwood resident was charged with driving while intoxicated Sunday morning following a report of a hit-and-run accident, according to state police.
Payton C. Smith, 21, was charged with first-offense DWI at 3:49 a.m., officers said.
An investigation at the scene of the accident revealed victim’s vehicle was struck by a 2012 Dodge Ram operated by Smith. Smith was traveling west on County Route 20, when, for an unknown reason, his vehicle sideswiped the victim’s vehicle, and he fled the scene.
He was located a short time later and charged with DWI.
His blood alcohol content (BAC) was determined to be .13%.
Smith was also charged with DWI operator leaving the scene of property damage accident.
He was released on appearance tickets returnable to Town of Hermon at a later date.
