GOUVERNEUR -- A Gouverneur man was arrested for drug possession and resisting arrest following a loud music complaint March 4, according to Gouverneur police.

John R. Lajoy Jr., 33, was arrested at 11:14 a.m. for seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, disorderly conduct, second-degree harassment and resisting arrest, officers said.

He reportedly played his music loud enough to warrant two phone calls from the upstairs tenant to police, officers said.

Following investigation Lajoy allegedly slammed his apartment door in the officer’s face causing the door to strike the police officer. This happened after he was told he was under arrest, officers said.

After Lajoy was taken into custody, a small container was found in his left front pants pocket with a white powdery substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine, police said.

He was arraigned in Gouverneur court by Judge Travis Dann and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Jail on $500 bail.
