COLTON – The St. Lawrence County Fire Investigation Team has not yet determined the cause of a fire that destroyed a house in Colton early Sunday morning.
The owner of the house was taken for treatment for smoke inhalation. One firefighter sustained a leg injury.
The fire to the house, at 4788 St. Rt. 56 and owned by Kathleen Valentine, was called in at 4:36 a.m. She was the sole occupant, investigators said.
Colton Fire and Rescue units went right out, supported by Pierrepont Fire, Parishville Fire and Rescue, Hannawa Falls Fire, and Potsdam Rescue.
On standby were Hopkinton-Ft. Jackson Fire and a Potsdam Rescue unit.
Colton firefighters were back in service at 10:45 a.m.
The house was a total loss.
Investigators said the cause is still under investigation.
