CANTON – Opening day at the Canton Recreation Pavilion for skating has been delayed a few days due to ice conditions, but the ice should be open for blades Saturday, Oct. 11.
“We’ve been battling some condensation issues out on the ice and we didn’t want people out on it,” said Jim Putman, Canton Recreation director.
Putman said the condensation was causing bumps on the ice, creating potential safety issues for skaters.
The condensation issue with the rink ice could be due to a combination of factors from warmer weather to building design, Putman said.
The recreation director said the rink will be open tomorrow for rental business. Open skate hours are planned in coming days. Putman said a schedule will be released in the next few days.
“I want to see how the ice holds up tomorrow with people on it,” he said.
