Ice cream, diaper derby, lip sync and music kick off Waddington Homecoming weekend tonight

WADDINGTON –Waddington Homecoming 2010 today through Sunday is definitely a family affair, with activities for all ages such as a sand castle contest, go-cart races, a parade, bed races, fireworks and a community picnic.

The theme of the weekend is A Salute to Railroads. The schedule of events includes:

• Friday, Aug. 6: 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m., ice cream social at Waddington United Methodist Church; 6 p.m., opening ceremony at town hall square; 6:30 p.m., diaper derby at town hall square; 7 p.m., lip sync contest at town hall square, registration at 5:30 p.m.; 9 p.m., music by the Acoustic Brothers at town hall square.

• Saturday, Aug. 7: 7 a.m., pancake breakfast at Waddington United Methodist Church; 9 a.m., 5K run from Island View Park; 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., book sale at library community room; 10 a.m., car show at Island View Park; 10 a.m., no-octane go-cart race on Pine Street; 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., craft, antique & flea market show at town hall square; 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., quilt & textile show at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church; 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., art show at former elementary school; 11 a.m., children’s games at Island View Park; 11 a.m., chicken barbecue at fire hall; 1 p.m., entertainment at town hall square; 2:30 p.m. – bed race on Main Street; 5 p.m., parade lineup on Linden & Fenton streets; 6 p.m., parade from Lagrasse Street to Island View Park; 7 p.m., music by Charlton Brothers at Island View Park; 8 p.m., 10th annual duck race from the town beach to Island View Park; dusk, fireworks at Island View Park.

• Sunday, Aug. 8: 9:30 a.m., homecoming service at the First Presbyterian Church, Fenton Street; noon, community picnic at the town beach, entertainment by Atkinson Family Band; 2 p.m., tube race from the town beach to Island View Park.
