HOPKINTON -- Representatives of the world’s largest renewable energy generating company will be back in the North Country for a joint meeting Aug. 8 of the Hopkinton and Parishville town boards on a proposed wind farm project.
People from Iberdrola Renewables will be on hand at Hopkinton Town Hall beginning at 7 p.m. to answer questions.
Iberdrola has said it is studying weather patterns before it decides whether or not to pursue construction of the towers in the towns of Hopkinton and Parishville.
Both communities have been struggling to meet the challenge that such a project would mean for the towns, many of whose residents have already signed contracts with Iberdrola to site turbine towers on their land if Iberdrola decides to go ahead with the plan.
Communities have been developing local laws to regulate the massive windmill towers even as state lawmakers recently decided that they and not local governments would wield authority on any siting decisions.
Iberdrola has said that they would not likely make a decision to proceed or not with their plans in Parishville and Hopkinton until they have collected a year’s worth of local weather data, which will not be until late this year.
