WEST POTSDAM – Minor damage was reported after a fire broke out at a house under renovation Sunday, according to St. Lawrence County fire investigators.

The West Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department responded at 10:23 a.m. to a house owned by William Kayea at 2954 County Route 14. There were no occupants in the building, officials said.

Mutual aid was provided by the Waddington, Madrid, Morley and Norwood fire departments. The Madrid Rescue Squad and National Grid also responded.

The Rensselaer Falls fire department was on standby for Morley and the Potsdam fire department was on standby for West Potsdam during the blaze.

The fire has been ruled accidental-electrical, fire investigators said. The building was insured, they said.

West Potsdam firefighters returned to the station at 12:37 p.m.
