HEUVELTON — State Police investigators, St. Lawrence County Sheriff detectives and Federal Postal Service Investigators are on scene at multiple break-ins in Heuvelton.
According to St. Lawrence County Undersheriff Sean O’Brien, State Police are currently investigating a break-in at Heuvelton School.
Heuvelton School District officials released a statement earlier today concerning the break-in.
“At approximately 6 a.m. this morning, custodial staff discovered vandalism inside the school building. They immediately alerted law enforcement that a break-in had occurred and secured the building. All students and staff arrived at school safely this morning, however, out of an abundance of caution and to avoid interference in the police investigation, all students and staff will be dismissed at 10 a.m. today. There will be no afternoon PreK, BOCES or afterschool activities. We will continue to keep our school community informed of the situation,” officials wrote on the district’s website.
Meanwhile, Sheriff Department detectives are also investigating break-ins at Doug’s Tavern, Amvets Post 1997 and the Heuvelton post office, he said.
Federal Postal Service Investigators are also on scene at the post office, O’Brien said.
All four scenes are considered active crime scenes, with all investigating agencies working together, O’Brien said.
It is still too early in the investigation to say if all four incidents are connected, he said.
Police believe the incidents took place before daylight hours Oct. 18.
